XL Series Spiral Sand Washer

The XL Series Spiral Sand Washer delivers high washing efficiency with minimal fine sand loss. It integrates washing, desliming, and natural dewatering to improve sand cleanliness, grading stability, and overall product value.

    XL Series Spiral Sand Washer

The XL Series Spiral Sand Washer is a key washing and desliming unit widely used in sand and aggregate production lines as well as mineral processing plants. It is specifically designed for efficient washing, mud removal, and preliminary dewatering of sand and fine granular materials. With its robust spiral structure and extended washing path, the XL Series is known for excellent cleaning performance, low fine sand loss, stable operation, and long service life.

During operation, materials are continuously stirred, rubbed, and conveyed by the rotating spiral blades inside a water-filled trough. Clay, silt, stone powder, and organic impurities adhering to the surface of sand particles are effectively loosened and separated. As the clean sand is lifted toward the discharge end, natural dewatering occurs, resulting in a product with reduced moisture content and improved cleanliness. This makes the XL Series Spiral Sand Washer a critical component for producing high-quality construction sand that meets strict grading and cleanliness standards.

Compared with wheel-type sand washers, spiral sand washers provide stronger scrubbing action and longer washing time, making them particularly suitable for materials with higher mud content or stubborn surface contamination. When combined with a fine sand recovery system, the XL Series can significantly reduce the loss of valuable particles larger than 0.075 mm, optimize particle size distribution, and increase the commercial value of the finished sand product.

    Structure and Working Principle

The structure of the XL Series Spiral Sand Washer is similar to that of a spiral classifier, but its function is focused on washing and dewatering rather than classification.

    Washing Trough:

A U-shaped or semi-cylindrical trough fabricated from heavy-duty steel plates. The trough is inclined toward the discharge end and serves as the primary washing zone where materials are fully immersed and agitated.

    Spiral Assembly:

The core working component consists of a main shaft, support arms, and spiral blades. The blades are typically single- or double-flight designs and are made of wear-resistant materials or lined with abrasion-resistant plates. Their rotation provides continuous agitation, scrubbing, and lifting of the sand.

    Drive Unit:

Installed at the upper (discharge) end of the trough, the drive system includes an electric motor and gearbox that drive the spiral shaft at low speed, ensuring smooth and stable operation.

    Frame and Bearing System:

A rigid steel frame supports the trough and drive system. The lower end of the spiral shaft is supported by a submerged bearing or bearing seat designed for reliable operation in wet conditions.

    Feed Box and Overflow Weir:

The feed box introduces raw sand and washing water evenly into the trough. The overflow weir at the lower end allows muddy water, clay, and fine impurities to discharge continuously.

    Discharge and Dewatering Zone:

Clean sand is lifted to the discharge end and naturally dewatered during elevation, producing a cleaner and relatively drier final product.

    Applications

    Sand and Aggregate Industry:

Manufactured sand production lines for removing excess stone powder and improving sand grading.

Natural sand washing for river sand, lake sand, and mountain sand to remove mud, shells, and organic matter.

    Mineral Processing Industry:

Ore washing to remove clay and surface impurities before beneficiation.

Desliming and preparation ahead of gravity separation equipment such as spiral chutes and shaking tables.

    Building Materials, Ceramics, and Glass:

Cleaning of quartz sand, feldspar, and other industrial raw materials.

    Construction Projects:

Sand washing sections in concrete batching plants and precast component factories.

    Applicable Materials:

Suitable for washing sand, gravel, and fine mineral particles in the size range of approximately 0–10 mm, especially materials with high mud content requiring intensive scrubbing.

    Performance Advantages

    High Cleaning Efficiency:

Extended immersion time and strong spiral scrubbing effectively remove clay, silt, and stubborn stone powder, achieving superior washing results compared with wheel sand washers.

    Low Fine Sand Loss:

When integrated with a fine sand recovery system, valuable particles larger than 0.075 mm are effectively retained, stabilizing fineness modulus and improving product consistency.

    Stable and Reliable Operation:

The simple mechanical structure ensures low failure rates and reliable performance under continuous heavy-duty operation.

    Good Dewatering Performance:

Natural dewatering during material lifting reduces moisture content, producing sand with better handling and storage characteristics.

    Durable and Easy to Maintain:

Main wear parts are concentrated on the lower spiral blades and submerged bearings, which are easy to inspect and replace. The overall structure is robust and designed for long service life.
